Combining a dark alternative-rock identity with the independent spirit of the period, the release captures the band during their original late-1980s recording career.

The title track, “The Groove,” takes centre stage on the A-side, backed by “No Shame” and “Is There Time?” on the reverse. The concise track selection gives the record the feel of a focused alternative-rock single, with the 12-inch format offering a dedicated release for listeners exploring the era's independent music beyond the mainstream charts.

Chapter 22 released a number of independent records during the late 1980s and early 1990s, including releases by alternative and underground acts. Dawn After Dark's “The Groove” sits within this catalogue alongside the band's other period singles, “Crystal High / See-Rap” and “Maximum Overdrive.” The record is an interesting example of the range of music circulating through Britain's independent label network during this period.

The release is particularly suited to collectors of late-1980s British alternative rock, independent label 12-inch singles and the Chapter 22 catalogue. Its three-track format makes it a straightforward introduction to Dawn After Dark's original recordings, while the combination of the title track and two B-side selections gives it added interest for listeners exploring the band's early discography.

Tracklist

Red Side
A.
