The album combines the gentle melodies and pastoral sensibility associated with his 1970s recordings with the familiar musical traditions of Christmas, creating a seasonal record that balances nostalgia, reflection and festive warmth.

The tracklist moves between much-loved Christmas favourites and more personal compositions. Traditional songs such as “Away In A Manger”, “What Child Is This”, “Coventry Carol” and “Silent Night, Holy Night” sit alongside popular standards including “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)”, “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Silver Bells”. This mixture of sacred carols and secular celebrations gives the album a varied but cohesive seasonal atmosphere.

Two original songs are particularly central to the album’s identity. “Christmas For Cowboys” reflects Denver’s affection for the American West, while “A Baby Just Like You” adds a more personal, reflective dimension to the collection. “Aspenglow”, with its wintry imagery and connection to the Colorado landscape, further reinforces the mountain-inspired character suggested by the album’s title. “Please, Daddy (Don't Get Drunk This Christmas)” brings a more poignant note to the programme, contrasting with the lighter spirit of the traditional festive songs.

Originally released during a particularly successful period in Denver’s career, Rocky Mountain Christmas also accompanied a television special broadcast in December 1975. It remains a natural choice for listeners who enjoy classic country, folk and singer-songwriter music, as well as collectors seeking a distinctive Christmas album from one of the defining American singer-songwriters of the era.

With its blend of acoustic warmth, familiar carols, seasonal storytelling and original material, this John Denver Christmas LP is well suited to festive listening, a traditional holiday record collection or a soundtrack to a quieter winter evening.

Tracklist

Side A

A1 – Aspenglow (2:21)
A2 – The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) (3:13)
A3 – Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (1:46)
A4 – Silver Bells (2:10)
A5 – Please, Daddy (Don't Get Drunk This Christmas) (2:34)
A6 – Christmas For Cowboys (2:29)

Side B

B1 – Away In A Manger (2:05)
B2 – What Child Is This (2:33)
B3 – Coventry Carol (2:19)
B4 – Oh Holy Night (2:53)
B5 – Silent Night, Holy Night (3:28)
B6 – A Baby Just Like You (2:40)
