Miles Davis – Aura
Miles Davis – Aura
A visionary and atmospheric suite from Miles Davis, Aura is a unique fusion project that expands Davis’s musical legacy into orchestral, jazz fusion, and conceptual territory. Composed by Danish trumpeter and composer Palle Mikkelborg as a tribute to Davis, the album was recorded in 1985 and released in 1989, presenting a richly textured, colour-themed musical journey.
Structured around a sequence of “colour” movements, Aura blends orchestral writing with jazz improvisation and electric instrumentation, creating a cinematic sound world that feels both expansive and deeply introspective. Contributions from guitarist John McLaughlin and bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen add expressive, virtuosic layers to the work’s shifting emotional palette.
With its flowing structure and abstract thematic design, Aura stands as one of the most unusual and ambitious entries in the Miles Davis catalogue - an immersive, colour-saturated soundscape that rewards deep, attentive listening.
