Originally recorded in 1952, “Rock The Joint” was based on the 1949 rhythm & blues number by Jimmy Preston and His Prestonians. Bill Haley and his band radically reshaped the song, combining R&B energy with their country and western influences. The result is widely regarded as one of the key early rockabilly and proto-rock ’n’ roll recordings, arriving three years before Haley's breakthrough with “Rock Around The Clock”.

The recording is particularly notable for its distinctive instrumentation.
