Chapman-Whitney – Streetwalkers

A powerful blend of blues-infused rock, soulful vocals, and first-class musicianship, Streetwalkers marked the debut album from Chapman-Whitney Streetwalkers, the band formed by former Family members Roger Chapman and Charlie Whitney. Released in 1974, the album captures the raw energy and musical freedom that made the group one of Britain's most respected live acts during the mid-1970s.

Following the dissolution of Family, Chapman and Whitney wasted little time in forging a new musical direction. Streetwalkers combined hard rock, rhythm & blues, funk, and jazz influences into a distinctive sound, driven by Roger Chapman's unmistakable gravelly vocals and Charlie Whitney's accomplished guitar work. The result was an album that balanced powerful rock anthems with sophisticated songwriting and dynamic arrangements.

Highlights include the swaggering opener "Parisienne High Heels," the infectious groove of "Roxianna," and the expansive "Call Ya," which showcases the band's impressive musicianship. Tracks such as "Creature Feature," "Sue And Betty Jean," and "Showbiz Joe" further demonstrate the group's ability to fuse blues, rock, and soulful rhythms, while "Hangman" provides a memorable and dramatic finale.

Although Streetwalkers never achieved the commercial success of some of their contemporaries, the band earned widespread acclaim for their exceptional live performances and remains highly regarded among collectors of classic British rock. Streetwalkers is an essential addition for fans of Family, Free, Bad Company, Humble Pie, and Faces, offering a superb example of 1970s British blues rock at its finest.
