Dead Kennedys – Frankenchrist is one of the most provocative and politically charged albums in American punk history. Originally released in 1985, the band's third studio album combines hardcore punk, surf-rock influences, dark humour and confrontational political commentary, with Jello Biafra's unmistakable vocals driving a furious attack on American society, consumerism and authority.

The album opens with "Soup Is Good Food," a caustic critique of corporate power and economic inequality, before launching into "Hellnation" and "This Could Be Anywhere (This Could Be Everywhere)." Tracks such as "A Growing Boy Needs His Lunch" and "Chicken Farm" continue the band's trademark combination of aggressive punk, satire and sharply observed social commentary.

Side two features "Macho-Rama (Invasion Of The Beef Patrol)" and the blistering "Goons Of Hazzard," while "M.T.V. - Get Off The Air" takes aim at the increasingly commercialised music industry and the influence of television. Frankenchrist became particularly notorious following a legal controversy surrounding the inclusion of H.R. Giger's artwork "Landscape XX (Penis Landscape)" as a poster with the album. The resulting obscenity case became a major free-speech issue within the American punk scene and helped cement the album's reputation as one of the most controversial releases of the 1980s.
