John Foxx ‎– The Garden

John Foxx – The Garden

John Foxx’s The Garden is a beautifully atmospheric landmark of early-1980s electronic pop, expanding the stark, futuristic sound of his debut Metamatic into something warmer, more organic and dreamlike. Released in 1981, the album blends intricate synthesizer patterns and electronic textures with guitar, piano, percussion and evocative vocal melodies, creating a sound that sits between synth-pop, art-rock and new wave.

The opening single, “Europe After The Rain”, sets the tone with its hypnotic rhythm and haunting melody, while “Systems Of Romance” revisits a key theme from Foxx’s earlier musical career. Elsewhere, “Dancing Like A Gun” has a sharper, more driving edge, “Pater Noster” offers a brief, unsettling interlude, and the extended title track closes the album in a mysterious, immersive mood.

Written and produced by Foxx, with engineering by Gareth Jones and artwork by Ansell Sadgrove, The Garden is an essential record for fans of intelligent electronic music and the more experimental side of early-’80s pop.

This copy includes the accompanying booklet, making it particularly appealing to collectors of John Foxx and classic synth-pop. The original UK edition was issued by Virgin in September 1981.
