Released in 1989, Gatecrashing is the second and final studio album by Living in a Box, arriving at a time when late-80s pop production was becoming more polished, synth-heavy, and rhythmically driven. The band was fronted by vocalist Richard Darbyshire, whose soulful delivery helped distinguish them from many contemporaneous pop acts.

The album continues the group’s blend of pop, funk, and sophisticated electronic production, but leans more heavily into glossy late-80s studio aesthetics. Tracks such as “Blow the House Down” and “Unique” showcase punchy brass arrangements, tight rhythm programming, and strong melodic hooks designed for radio play.
