Noisia vs. Drifter – Brainstitch / Deeper Love

Originally released in 2005 on Shogun Audio, Brainstitch / Deeper Love is an early and highly regarded 12-inch from Dutch production trio Noisia, pairing their darker, tech-driven sound with the more musical approach of their Drifter alias. The release was issued as SHA005, placing it firmly within the formative years of Shogun Audio and the increasingly sophisticated, heavyweight drum & bass sound of the mid-2000s.

Side A – Brainstitch is a dark, rolling example of Noisia's early production style, built around hard-edged drums, intricate electronic textures and the technical precision that would become central to their sound. Contemporary Shogun Audio material describes it as a lesson in tech-fuelled drum & bass, while contemporary DJ coverage highlighted its rolling, dark neurofunk character.

On the AA side, Drifter – Deeper Love takes a different direction. Drifter was an alias used by the members of Noisia for material that explored a more musical and funk-influenced side of their production. Deeper Love demonstrates that versatility with a deeper, funk-filled drum & bass groove, contrasting effectively with the tougher sound of Brainstitch.

Together, the two tracks provide an excellent snapshot of Noisia's early catalogue, before the trio became one of the defining names in modern electronic music. The record also captures an important period in the development of neurofunk, techstep and experimental drum & bass, making it particularly appealing to DJs, Noisia collectors and fans of the heavier European D&B scene of the 2000s.
