Pailhead – Trait is a short but hugely influential collision of industrial electronics, hardcore punk and abrasive post-punk, bringing together two of the most important names in underground American music: Al Jourgensen of Ministry and Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat and Fugazi. Originally released in 1988, the record captures a raw meeting point between Chicago's industrial scene and Washington D.C.'s hardcore punk tradition.

The release opens with "Man Should Surrender", immediately establishing Pailhead's distinctive combination of pounding electronic rhythms, distorted textures and MacKaye's confrontational vocals. "Anthem" follows with an equally intense mixture of punk aggression and industrial machinery, demonstrating just how naturally the two styles could work together.

Side two features "Don't Stand In Line", another hard-edged track driven by relentless percussion and abrasive electronics, before the atmospheric "Ballad" closes the record.

Pailhead's significance comes from the unusual combination of musicians involved.
