The Dark Side Of The Moon is the landmark 1973 studio album from "Pink Floyd", one of the defining records of progressive and psychedelic rock. Released in the UK on 23 March 1973, it brought together the band's experimental instincts with unusually sophisticated production, memorable melodies and a unified concept exploring universal themes including time, money, work, conflict, mortality and human experience. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios between 1972 and early 1973, the album was produced by "Pink Floyd", with Alan Parsons serving as engineer and Chris Thomas supervising the mixing. The sessions made extensive use of the studio's 16-track recording technology, tape effects, synthesizers and carefully constructed transitions, helping create the seamless sonic character that became one of the album's defining features.

The opening sequence of "Speak To Me", "Breathe", "On The Run", "Time" and "The Great Gig In The Sky" establishes the album's distinctive atmosphere. "Time" combines Nick Mason's percussion and Richard Wright's keyboards with David Gilmour's guitar and vocals, while Clare Torry's extraordinary wordless vocal on "The Great Gig In The Sky" became one of the album's most recognisable musical moments. Torry recorded her vocal at Abbey Road on 21 January 1973.

Side Two begins with "Money", driven by its instantly recognisable cash-register effects and unusual 7/4 rhythm before settling into a powerful blues-rock groove. "Us And Them" provides a striking contrast with its spacious arrangement and Dick Parry's saxophone, while "Any Colour You Like" leads into the closing pair of "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse", completing the album's circular, continuous design.

The album's visual identity is equally famous. The iconic prism artwork was designed by Hipgnosis and George Hardie, translating the record's themes of light, colour and unity into one of the most recognisable album sleeves ever created. "Pink Floyd" had also performed and developed much of the material live before completing the studio version, allowing the arrangements to evolve considerably during the recording process.
