Recorded at the Berkeley Square in Berkeley, California, the album showcases the raw energy and extraordinary musicianship that quickly established Primus as one of the most distinctive bands in the American alternative scene.

At the centre of the band's sound is bassist and vocalist Les Claypool, whose highly technical, slap-heavy bass playing became one of Primus' defining characteristics. Alongside guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander, Claypool creates a powerful and unconventional combination of intricate rhythms, warped guitar textures, complex arrangements, and darkly humorous lyrics.
