Roxy Music is the groundbreaking 1972 debut album from one of the most influential and unconventional bands in British rock history. Fronted by Bryan Ferry and featuring Brian Eno, Andy Mackay, Phil Manzanera and Paul Thompson, the album introduced a thrilling combination of glam rock, art rock, avant-garde experimentation and sophisticated pop that would have a major influence on alternative and experimental music for decades to come.

Arriving at the height of the glam rock era, Roxy Music sounded unlike almost anything else around it. Bryan Ferry's cool, theatrical vocals and sophisticated songwriting were matched by Brian Eno's innovative synthesiser and electronic treatments, Phil Manzanera's guitar work and Andy Mackay's distinctive saxophone and oboe. The result was an album that could be simultaneously glamorous, strange, melodic and completely unpredictable.

The opening Re-Make/Re-Model immediately establishes Roxy Music's experimental approach, combining driving rock with electronic textures, unconventional arrangements and a memorable chorus. Ladytron follows with its futuristic atmosphere, while If There Is Something showcases Ferry's ability to turn romantic songwriting into something grand and theatrical. The atmospheric 2.H.B. completes the first side.

Side B opens with The Bob (Medley) before moving into the intimate Chance Meeting and the dramatic Would You Believe?. The seven-minute Sea Breezes provides one of the album's most beautiful and atmospheric moments, while Bitters End brings the record to a suitably eccentric close.

Although Brian Eno would leave Roxy Music after their second album, his contribution to this debut was crucial to its distinctive electronic and experimental character. The album helped establish Roxy Music as pioneers of British art rock and laid the foundations for the band's enormously influential career.
