Sexus – Edenites

Sexus – Edenites

Released in 1995 on Svelte Records, Edenites is the debut single from Sexus, the Manchester duo of David Savage and Paul Southern, and an intriguing release from the short-lived but distinctive Romo movement in British alternative pop. Emerging in the mid-1990s, Romo championed theatrical presentation, artifice, glamour and an unapologetically pop-focused approach, offering an alternative to the guitar-led sounds dominating much of the era.

Sexus stood out within this scene for their sophisticated, electronically driven pop sensibility. Contemporary music coverage compared the duo's sound to The Associates, placing them in a tradition of dramatic, stylish British pop that prized personality and musical individuality. Edenites helped bring Sexus to the attention of the music press, with journalist Simon Price championing the single in Melody Maker in June 1995.

This three-track release pairs the title track with “Cheap Thrills & Expensive Regrets” and “Rope Heaven By The Neck”, making it a valuable snapshot of Sexus at the beginning of their recording career. The accompanying tracks add further interest for listeners keen to explore beyond the lead single and discover the group's early work.

An appealing addition for collectors of 1990s British alternative pop, Romo-related releases, synth-led pop and the wider musical legacy of the era's underground club culture. Whether you're revisiting the scene or discovering Sexus for the first time, Edenites offers a fascinating glimpse into an unusual chapter of British pop history.
