Sheep On Drugs – Motorbike / Maryjane

Motorbike / Maryjane is a classic early-1990s release from Sheep On Drugs, the London duo who fused industrial attitude, techno, rave energy and sleazy electronic dance music into a distinctive and highly confrontational sound. Originally released in 1992, the single captures the duo during their formative period, when they were becoming favourites on the UK's underground electronic and industrial club circuit.

Sheep On Drugs were formed in 1990 by Duncan X (King Duncan) and Lee Fraser (Dead Lee), emerging partly as a reaction to the burgeoning acid house scene. Their music combined aggressive electronic rhythms, distorted textures, punk attitude and provocative lyrics, creating a sound that sat somewhere between industrial dance, techno, rave and alternative electronic music.

The A-side Motorbike is one of the group's best-known early tracks, built around pounding electronic rhythms and the abrasive, energetic production that became central to the Sheep On Drugs sound. The track was an important part of their early rise and was released as a single in 1992, reaching No. 7 on the UK Indie Chart.

On the flip, Mary Jane continues the group's darkly playful approach to electronic dance music. The track combines relentless programmed rhythms with the duo's characteristically irreverent vocal and lyrical style, making it a strong example of the crossover between early-1990s rave culture and the underground industrial scene.

Motorbike / Maryjane arrived during a particularly important period for Sheep On Drugs. Their subsequent releases TV USA and Track X helped establish their reputation further, before the group signed with Island Records and scored their biggest commercial success with 15 Minutes Of Fame in 1993.

For collectors of Sheep On Drugs vinyl, industrial dance, EBM, techno and early-1990s rave music, this is an essential piece of the group's early catalogue. Recommended for fans of industrial techno, electronic body music, alternative dance and underground rave, Motorbike / Maryjane captures Sheep On Drugs at their rawest and most uncompromising.
