A cracking slice of 1964 British beat and rock 'n' roll, “Move It Baby” was the only UK chart hit for singer Simon Scott, backed by The LeRoys. Released on Parlophone in July 1964, the single captures the energetic, rhythm-driven sound of the British beat boom, with Scott's youthful vocal delivery backed by a tight band arrangement from Alan Tew.

“Move It Baby” was written by Hubert Pattison and produced by Robert Stigwood, who was then building his reputation as a manager and producer. The record reached No. 37 in the UK Singles Chart during August 1964, giving Scott a brief moment in the spotlight alongside the many emerging beat and rock 'n' roll acts of the period. Contemporary Disc magazine described Scott as a singer with considerable personality, while Cash Box characterised the A-side as a fast-moving, dance-oriented rocker.

The B-side, “What Kind Of Woman”, was written by Ray Rivera and Vin Roddie and continues the single's rock 'n' roll feel. Both sides were arranged by Alan Tew, with The LeRoys providing the instrumental backing. The pairing makes this a particularly enjoyable example of the transitional period between early rock 'n' roll and the more sophisticated British beat sound emerging in 1964.

For collectors of British beat, mod-era 45s, rockabilly, early-60s rock 'n' roll and obscure Parlophone singles, “Move It Baby” is an appealing record from the height of the 1964 beat boom. Simon Scott & The LeRoys would make only one further Parlophone single together before Scott moved on to other projects, making this their key recording.
