The Cure – Lovesong

The Cure – Lovesong is the classic 1989 UK 7" single, released on Fiction Records as FICS 30 and taken from the band's landmark album Disintegration. Released on 21 August 1989, the single reached No. 18 in the UK Singles Chart, while "Lovesong" went on to become one of The Cure's most recognisable and enduring songs.

The A-side features "Lovesong", Robert Smith's beautifully understated declaration of love, combining shimmering guitar, melodic bass and the band's distinctive atmospheric sound. Originally written as a wedding present for Smith's future wife, Mary Poole, the song became one of The Cure's biggest international successes and reached No. 2 in the US, their highest-charting single there.

The B-side, "2 Late", is a particularly well-regarded Cure B-side and is one of the reasons this original 7" remains appealing to fans and collectors. The UK 7" contains the two-track pairing of "Lovesong" and "2 Late", while the accompanying 12" added "Fear Of Ghosts" and an extended remix of "Lovesong".

This is the standard UK FICS 30 7" pressing, rather than the more collectible Lovebox FICSG 30 edition, which was a limited 10,000-copy box set containing a linen print.

For collectors of The Cure, Robert Smith, Disintegration, gothic rock, post-punk, new wave and 1980s alternative music, Lovesong is an essential Cure single and a great example of the band's more melodic late-1980s period.
