Released in 1979, Hold The Line is a compilation album celebrating the early success of Toto, bringing together many of the band's best-loved songs from their acclaimed first two studio albums, Toto (1978) and Hydra (1979). Showcasing the exceptional musicianship of one of rock's most accomplished bands, the collection blends arena rock, sophisticated pop, jazz influences, funk, and impeccable songwriting.
Formed by some of the most sought-after session musicians in Los Angeles, Toto quickly earned a reputation for technical excellence and memorable hooks. Featuring the extraordinary talents of Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Jeff Porcaro, David Hungate, and Bobby Kimball, the band's polished sound helped define the AOR (Album-Oriented Rock) genre throughout the late 1970s and 1980s.
The album opens with the international hit Hold The Line, a timeless rock anthem driven by Steve Lukather's unforgettable guitar riff and Bobby Kimball's powerful vocals. Side A continues with I Think I Could Stand You Forever, Goodbye Elenore, A Million Miles Away, All Us Boys, and the smooth, funk-infused classic Georgy Porgy, one of Toto's signature crossover hits.
Side B features another fan favourite, 99, a beautifully melodic song inspired by George Lucas' film THX 1138. The collection continues with Mama, the energetic St. George And The Dragon, Takin' It Back, the uplifting I'll Supply The Love, and concludes with Lorraine, highlighting the breadth of Toto's songwriting and musical versatility during their formative years.
