ZZ Top – Antenna

Released in 1994, Antenna marked ZZ Top's first studio album for a new record label following their enormously successful run during the 1980s. While retaining the polished production and modern edge that characterized albums such as Eliminator and Recycler, the record also re-emphasizes the blues-based roots that had always been at the heart of the band's sound.

Featuring the classic trio of Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard, Antenna combines heavy guitar riffs, driving rhythms, humour, and trademark Texas swagger. The album's lead single, “Pincushion,” became a major rock-radio hit and earned the band renewed attention in the 1990s.

Songs such as “Breakaway,” “Fuzzbox Voodoo,” and “Cherry Red” showcase ZZ Top's blend of blues influences and modern rock production, while tracks like “PCH” and “Deal Goin' Down” reflect the band's laid-back groove and road-tested musicianship. Throughout the album, Billy Gibbons' distinctive guitar tone and vocals remain front and centre.

Antenna proved that ZZ Top could successfully adapt to a changing musical landscape while remaining true to the blues-rock foundation that had made them one of America's most enduring rock bands.
