Originally released in 1997, Unplugged captures Canadian rock singer-songwriter Bryan Adams in a more intimate acoustic setting for the celebrated MTV Unplugged series. Recorded live at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on 26 September 1997, the album revisits some of Adams' best-known songs with acoustic instrumentation, expanded arrangements and a warmer, more stripped-back sound. The album was produced by Adams and Patrick Leonard and released by A&M Records.

The set opens with the instantly recognisable “Summer Of '69”, followed by acoustic interpretations of “Back To You,” “Cuts Like A Knife,” “I'm Ready” and “Fits Ya Good.” Rather than simply reproducing the original studio arrangements, Unplugged allows the melodies and songwriting to take centre stage, giving familiar Bryan Adams songs a more intimate live character.

The album also introduced three new songs: “Back To You,” “When You Love Someone” and “A Little Love.” “When You Love Someone,” written with Michael Kamen and Gretchen Peters, adds an orchestral dimension to the acoustic format, while “A Little Love” was written by Adams with Eliot Kennedy and Gretchen Peters.

Several musicians add distinctive textures to the performance, including guitarist Keith Scott, keyboard player Tommy Mandel, percussionist Danny Cummings and Irish musician Davy Spillane, whose low whistle and uilleann pipes bring an unusual Celtic colour to the arrangements. Composer Michael Kamen was also involved in the orchestral arrangements, with students from New York's Juilliard School contributing to the performance.

The latter half of the album moves through songs from Adams' 1980s and 1990s catalogue, including “18 Till I Die,” “I Think About You,” “The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You” and the extended “If Ya Wanna Be Bad – Ya Gotta Be Good / Let's Make A Night To Remember.” The performance closes with the enduring ballad “Heaven” and “I'll Always Be Right There.”

For fans of Bryan Adams, MTV Unplugged, acoustic rock and classic 1980s/1990s rock, this album offers an alternative perspective on one of Canada's most successful singer-songwriters. With major songs such as “Summer Of '69,” “Cuts Like A Knife” and “Heaven” presented in a live acoustic setting, Unplugged remains an essential entry in Adams' 1990s catalogue.
