Fashion – Fabrique

Released in June 1982 on Arista, Fabrique is the sophisticated second album from Birmingham new wave outfit Fashion, produced by German post-disco mastermind Zeus B. Held. Blending sleek electronics with funky basslines and a cool, dance-floor edge, the album reached No. 10 on the UK charts and spent 16 weeks in the Top 100.

Led by Dee Harris's restrained vocals, Fabrique spawned the UK hit singles Streetplayer (Mechanik) and Love Shadow, the latter also picking up airplay on MTV and finding traction with dance audiences stateside. The record's mix of icy synth-pop and slinky funk grooves has earned it cult classic status, with two tracks - White Stuff (Short Cut) and You Only Left Your Picture - later soundtracking episodes of Miami Vice.

Standouts like the moody Dressed To Kill and the atmospheric closer Slow Blue showcase a band far more sophisticated than their contemporaries, blending rock instrumentation with punk attitude and electronic wizardry. A must for collectors of early-80s British new wave, synth-pop, and sophisticated dance music.
