Kenei – Shockwaves

Shockwaves is a four-track 2×12" EP from French drum & bass producer "Kenei", released on Melting Pot Records in 2009 as catalogue MPR010. It was Kenei's first EP for the label and brings together collaborations with Proktah and Brainfuzz alongside a remix of Bulletproof's "Black Salvation".

The EP sits firmly in the late-2000s neurofunk and dancefloor drum & bass sound, combining eerie atmospheres, intricate synth work, crunching drums, powerful basslines and funk-influenced grooves. The title track, "Shockwaves", is a collaboration between Kenei and Proktah, while "Trust No One" brings Brainfuzz into the production partnership. The label described the EP as balancing high-energy dancefloor impact with detailed progression and sound design.

Kenei's solo contribution, "Innocence", features vocals from Aurélie Leriche and provides a contrasting atmospheric element within the otherwise heavyweight programme. The final track, "Black Salvation (Kenei Remix)", reworks Bulletproof's original, giving the EP another hard-edged neurofunk workout.

With its combination of neurofunk, techstep, dark drum & bass and dancefloor D&B, Shockwaves is a strong example of the underground European drum & bass sound of 2009 and a sought-after release for DJs and collectors of the Melting Pot Records catalogue. The original vinyl edition was issued as a limited 2×12" pressing, with contemporary label discussion stating that only 400 copies were pressed.
