Originally released in 1987 on RCA, Caught In The Act Of Being Ourselves is the second album from Nashville singer-songwriter Mark Germino, following his 1986 debut London Moon And Barnyard Remedies. Germino combines country songwriting with folk rock, roots rock and literate Americana, creating an album built around character-driven songs, vivid storytelling and a distinctly American singer-songwriter sensibility.

The album opens with "From The Brooklyn Bridge" before moving through the quirky "Third Coast Bag", "Propaganda Requiem In 'A' Minor" and "Rex Rob Lowenstein". The latter became one of Germino's better-known songs and was particularly championed on British radio, with BBC Radio 1 DJ Roger Scott giving it significant airplay; the song's subject is an independently minded radio DJ resisting the increasingly restrictive world of programmed playlists.

"Backstreet Mozart", "Teasin' Me Do" and "Diamonds Are Out, Rubies Are In" continue Germino's offbeat, literate songwriting, while the title track provides a thoughtful closing statement. The album's nine songs run for just over 41 minutes and showcase Germino as both a distinctive vocalist and songwriter, with an approach that sits comfortably alongside rootsy country-rock and alternative Americana.

The original recordings date from the mid-1980s, with the album officially released in the United States in 1987. RCA catalogue information also documents the album as an LP, while later European promotion and releases appeared under BMG/RCA during the late 1980s.
