A superb collection of classic Motown soul, bringing together two of the label's most celebrated voices and songwriters, "Marvin Gaye" and "Smokey Robinson". Originally released in the UK in 1988 on Telstar, Love Songs combines romantic favourites, soulful ballads and enduring Motown hits from across both artists' careers.

The compilation stretches across almost two decades of recordings, from Marvin Gaye's 1964 recording of "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and the 1965 Miracles classics "The Tracks Of My Tears" and "Ooo Baby Baby", through to Smokey Robinson's 1981 solo hit "Being With You" and Gaye's 1982 "Sexual Healing". Other highlights include "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" (1968), "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby" (1969), "Abraham, Martin And John" (1970), "Let's Get It On" (1973) and Robinson's "Just To See Her" (1987).

There is also a strong selection of Motown duet and group recordings, including Marvin Gaye with Diana Ross on "You Are Everything", Gaye and Kim Weston on "It Takes Two", and classic Smokey Robinson & The Miracles performances such as "I Second That Emotion", "The Tears Of A Clown", "The Tracks Of My Tears" and "Ooo Baby Baby". "The Tears Of A Clown" was originally recorded in the 1960s before becoming a major hit in 1970, illustrating how this collection brings together different periods of the Motown catalogue.

For fans of Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, The Miracles, Motown, Tamla, classic soul, Detroit soul and 1960s–1980s R&B, Love Songs offers a concise selection of some of the most recognisable and enduring recordings associated with two of Motown's defining artists.
