A haunting and deeply atmospheric work from iconic singer and artist Nico, Desertshore is one of the most stark and emotionally powerful records of early 1970s avant-garde music. Originally released in 1970, it stands as a minimalist yet profoundly expressive statement, shaped by isolation, reflection, and poetic darkness.

Created in collaboration with filmmaker and experimental artist Philippe Garrel and featuring contributions from members of the The Velvet Underground circle, the album strips music down to its bare essentials - harmonium, sparse instrumentation, and Nico’s unmistakable deep, resonant vocal delivery.

The result is an almost cinematic listening experience, where each track feels like a fragment of a larger, fractured narrative. Songs such as Janitor of Lunacy and Mütterlein are both fragile and unsettling, balancing beauty with a sense of emotional distance and unease. The inclusion of experimental pieces like Le Petit Chevalier further reinforces the album’s dreamlike, almost ritualistic quality.
