The Cryin' Shames – Please Stay
The Cryin' Shames – Please Stay
“Please Stay” is the sought-after 1966 British beat and freakbeat single from “The Cryin' Shames”, a group from Liverpool whose short-lived career produced one of the more memorable records of the British 1960s underground scene. Produced by legendary songwriter and producer “Joe Meek”, the single combines a dramatic vocal performance with the distinctive atmospheric production associated with Meek's work.
The A-side, “Please Stay”, is the group's best-known recording and a striking example of mid-60s British beat moving towards the darker, more experimental sound of psychedelia. The emotional delivery, swirling arrangement and echo-heavy production give the track a haunting quality that has made it a favourite among collectors of freakbeat, garage rock and obscure British psychedelia.
The B-side, “What's News Pussycat?”, adds another fascinating piece of mid-60s British pop history to the release. With Joe Meek's involvement and the group's Liverpool roots, the single sits neatly alongside the era's beat, garage and psychedelic records and is particularly appealing to collectors of UK 1960s rarities.
A great vintage 7" for fans of “The Cryin' Shames”, Joe Meek productions, British beat, freakbeat, garage rock and 1960s psychedelic pop.
