The Cure – Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me

The Cure – Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is one of the band's most expansive and ambitious albums, capturing The Cure at their creative peak in the late 1980s. Originally released in 1987, this double album combines their trademark gothic atmosphere and post-punk foundations with colourful pop, psychedelic rock, funk and richly layered alternative music.

The album immediately demonstrates its breadth with the dramatic "The Kiss," before moving through the melodic "Catch" and darker "Torture." "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" returns to the band's more hypnotic and atmospheric side, building an immersive soundscape around Robert Smith's distinctive vocals.

Side two introduces some of the album's more playful material, including "Why Can't I Be You?", an exuberant collision of pop, funk and new wave. "How Beautiful You Are..." and the sprawling "The Snake Pit" contrast this with more intricate and atmospheric arrangements, while "Hey You !!!" provides another burst of energetic pop.

The third side contains the album's most enduring song, "Just Like Heaven." With its chiming guitars, driving rhythm and instantly memorable melody, it became one of The Cure's biggest international successes and remains one of the defining alternative rock songs of the 1980s. "All I Want," "Hot Hot Hot !!!," "One More Time" and "Like Cockatoos" demonstrate just how varied the band's sound had become.

The final side moves between atmosphere, romance and darker intensity, from "Icing Sugar" and "The Perfect Girl" through to "A Thousand Hours," "Shiver And Shake" and the powerful closing track "Fight."

Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me marked an important point in The Cure's evolution, proving that the band could move between gothic rock, post-punk, psychedelic music, new wave and alternative pop without losing their distinctive identity.

For fans of The Cure, Siouxsie And The Banshees, New Order, Echo & The Bunnymen, gothic rock, post-punk and 1980s alternative rock, this classic double album is an essential addition to any vinyl collection.
