The Cure – Mixed Up

The Cure – Mixed Up is a landmark remix album that reimagines some of the band's most recognisable songs through extended, electronic, and club-oriented productions. Originally released in 1990, it captures The Cure embracing the remix culture that was becoming increasingly influential in alternative and dance music at the end of the 1980s.

Rather than simply presenting standard album versions, Mixed Up gives these songs new rhythmic structures, extended arrangements, atmospheric production, and electronic textures. The result is a fascinating meeting point between The Cure's gothic rock and post-punk roots and the emerging influence of house, dance, and electronic music.

The album opens with the Extended Mix of "Lullaby," expanding one of The Cure's best-known tracks into a more spacious and rhythmically developed version. "Close To Me (Closer Mix)" and "Fascination Street (Extended Mix)" follow, bringing additional groove and atmosphere to two very different sides of the band's sound.

Side two features "The Walk (Everything Mix)," "Lovesong (Extended Mix)" and the hugely influential "A Forest (Tree Mix)." The latter transforms the band's classic post-punk track into a more expansive electronic experience while retaining the haunting atmosphere of the original.

The third side moves further into remix territory with "Pictures Of You (Extended Dub Mix)," "Hot Hot Hot!!! (Extended Mix)" and "Why Can't I Be You? (Extended Mix)." These versions highlight the band's more playful and danceable material.

The final side includes "The Caterpillar (Flicker Mix)," "Inbetween Days (Shiver Mix)" and "Never Enough (Big Mix)," completing a collection that demonstrates just how adaptable The Cure's songwriting could be when placed in a club-oriented context.

Mixed Up is an essential release for fans interested in the crossover between alternative rock, gothic music, post-punk, and electronic dance culture. It also provides an important snapshot of The Cure at the point where remix culture was becoming an increasingly important part of mainstream music.

Ideal for fans of The Cure, New Order, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie And The Banshees, gothic rock, post-punk, and alternative dance music, this four-sided collection is a must-have for collectors of The Cure's more experimental and club-focused work.
