The Rolling Stones – Got Live If You Want It!

Got Live If You Want It! is the Rolling Stones' final official UK EP, originally released by Decca on 11 June 1965. Recorded during the band's British tour in March 1965, it captures the Stones in their raw early live period, when their performances were driven by a powerful combination of American rhythm & blues, blues, rock & roll and British beat.

The six-track programme opens with the crowd chant "We Want The Stones", leading into a brief version of "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" and "Pain In My Heart". "Route 66", "I'm Moving On" and "I'm Alright" showcase the band's energetic approach to classic R&B material, with Mick Jagger's vocals and the interplay of Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts capturing the excitement of the Stones' early club and theatre performances.

The EP is particularly interesting to collectors because it should not be confused with the much better-known 1966 US album Got Live If You Want It!. The two releases contain different material and were recorded at different times. Three tracks from this 1965 UK EP – "Route 66", "I'm Moving On" and "I'm Alright" – subsequently appeared on American Rolling Stones albums during 1965, while "Pain In My Heart" and the short "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" remained particularly distinctive to the EP.

The recordings date from March 1965, while the original UK EP was released in June 1965, making this an excellent snapshot of the Rolling Stones during their breakthrough period. Produced by Andrew Loog Oldham and originally issued on Decca, Got Live If You Want It! remains an important piece of the band's early catalogue and a desirable release for collectors of 1960s British rock, rhythm & blues and vintage Rolling Stones vinyl.
