Then Jerico – What Does It Take?

What Does It Take? is a classic Then Jerico 12" single, showcasing the polished, atmospheric pop-rock sound that made the London band one of the more distinctive acts of the late-1980s British new wave scene. Fronted by Mark Shaw, Then Jerico combined dramatic vocals, melodic guitar, keyboards and punchy production to create a sound that sat comfortably between new wave, rock and sophisticated pop.

The Extended Version of What Does It Take? gives the track room to develop beyond the standard single format, with a longer arrangement designed for the dancefloor and 12" market. Shaw's distinctive vocal delivery sits over driving drums, keyboards and layered rock instrumentation, giving the song the widescreen production associated with the band's late-80s material.

Then Jerico emerged from London's post-punk and new wave scene during the early 1980s before achieving mainstream success with their debut album First (The Sound Of Music). Their combination of rock guitars and electronic production placed them alongside the more polished end of the British new wave and pop-rock movement.

The release is rounded out by Under Fire, another extended, atmospheric track that demonstrates the band's ability to move between energetic rock and more synth-led textures. Jungle completes the collection with a darker, groove-focused feel, adding variety to this compact three-track release.

For collectors of Then Jerico vinyl, 1980s new wave, synth rock and British pop-rock, this 12" is an excellent addition. Fans of A-ha, INXS, Simple Minds, The Cult and Tears for Fears may also enjoy the combination of melodic songwriting, dramatic vocals and polished 1980s production.

A strong example of Then Jerico's crossover sound, What Does It Take? combines new wave atmosphere, rock energy and extended club-friendly arrangements in a release that will appeal to both 80s music collectors and vinyl DJs.
