Tin MachineTin Machine

A bold and deliberately raw reinvention from David Bowie, Tin Machine saw Bowie stepping away from polished 1980s pop and returning to a far grittier, guitar-driven sound. Formed alongside guitarist Reeves Gabrels and brothers Hunt and Tony Sales, Tin Machine functioned as a true band rather than a Bowie solo project - resulting in one of the most aggressive and experimental records of his career.

Blending alternative rock, art rock, garage energy, and hard-edged post-punk influences, the album feels urgent, unpredictable, and intentionally rough around the edges. Bowie’s vocals are powerful throughout, while the band’s loose, noisy chemistry gives the record a restless energy that stood apart from mainstream rock at the end of the 1980s.

Tracks like “Heaven’s In Here,” “Under The God,” and “Crack City” deliver distorted riffs and confrontational lyricism, while “I Can’t Read” and the cover of Working Class Hero reveal a darker, more reflective side. Reeves Gabrels’ inventive guitar work is a major highlight throughout, pushing many of the songs into experimental territory.

Initially divisive but now widely reassessed as an important turning point in Bowie’s career, Tin Machine remains a fascinating and uncompromising rock record that paved the way for much of his acclaimed later work.
