Upstairs At Eric's is the landmark 1982 debut album by Yazoo, the English electronic duo of Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet. Released by Mute Records in August 1982, it brought together Clarke's minimal synthesizers and drum-machine programming with Moyet's powerful, soulful vocals, creating a sound that was both starkly electronic and remarkably human. The album was recorded at Blackwing Studios in London with producer and engineer Eric Radcliffe, the "Eric" referenced in the album title.

The album arrived after two major UK singles: "Only You", released in March 1982 and reaching No. 2 in the UK, followed by the more energetic "Don't Go", which also reached the UK Top 3. Both are included here in their original album context, with "Only You" showcasing Moyet's distinctive voice over Clarke's restrained electronic arrangement, while "Don't Go" points towards the dance-oriented synth-pop that would become a defining sound of the early 1980s.

Away from the singles, Upstairs At Eric's is full of contrasting moods, moving from the sparse and atmospheric "Midnight", "In My Room" and "Winter Kills" to the playful electronic experimentation of "I Before E Except After C" and "Goodbye 70's". Contemporary Record Mirror coverage highlighted the album's mixture of disco, R&B, pure pop and experimental electronics, while noting the striking combination of Moyet's voice and the duo's synthesised textures.

This is a key early Mute Records synth-pop album, and an essential release for fans of "Depeche Mode", "Erasure", electronic new wave and the development of British synth-pop. It also represents an important moment in Vince Clarke's career immediately after his departure from "Depeche Mode", before he went on to form "The Assembly" and "Erasure". The original UK Mute LP was issued as STUMM 7 in 1982.
