The Best Of Miles Davis is an expansive 2CD collection showcasing the extraordinary range of one of the most influential figures in jazz history. Originally issued in 1999, the compilation is divided into two contrasting programmes: Cool Standards, concentrating on Davis's celebrated acoustic recordings, and New Directions, exploring the electric, fusion and contemporary sounds of his later career.

The first disc is packed with landmark performances, including 'Round Midnight, So What, All Blues, Summertime, Stella By Starlight and Someday My Prince Will Come. So What and All Blues come from the legendary Kind Of Blue sessions, while Générique comes from Davis's atmospheric soundtrack for Louis Malle's Ascenseur Pour L'Échafaud. The extended Concierto De Aranjuez also showcases Davis's ability to transform a classical composition into something unmistakably his own.
