Noisia / Mayhem – Exodus

A landmark piece of heavyweight drum & bass from the early years of Vision Recordings, Exodus brings together Dutch production trio Noisia with American producer Mayhem and legendary hip-hop MC KRS-One. Originally released in 2007 as Vision Recordings VSN004, the 12" pairs the vocal version with a full instrumental, showcasing the dark, futuristic production that would become synonymous with Noisia's sound.

The Vocal Version opens with an ominous, cinematic atmosphere before erupting into brutal drum programming, distorted bass and intricate electronic textures. KRS-One's commanding vocal performance adds a strong hip-hop dimension to the track, creating a crossover between hardcore drum & bass and underground rap without compromising the sheer intensity of the production.

On the AA side, the Instrumental Version strips away the vocal and puts Noisia and Mayhem's production fully in the spotlight. At around seven minutes, it is a masterclass in detailed drum programming, heavyweight bass design and futuristic sound engineering, with the relentless energy that made the track such a standout within the European neurofunk scene.

Exodus has remained one of the defining records from the formative Vision Recordings era, and its influence can be heard across the darker end of drum & bass, neurofunk and bass music. For DJs and collectors, the original VSN004 pressing represents an important chapter in Noisia's development and in the evolution of the technical, hard-hitting sound that would dominate much of underground drum & bass during the late 2000s.
