Sea Hags – Sea Hags is the cult self-titled debut from the San Francisco rockers, originally released in 1989. Combining gritty hard rock, bluesy guitar riffs and the swaggering attitude of the late-1980s sleaze-rock scene, the album has developed a strong reputation among collectors of underground American rock.

Produced by Mike Clink, best known for his work with Guns N' Roses, the album captures the Sea Hags at their rawest, balancing heavy riffs and rough-edged vocals with the melodic songwriting that helped distinguish them from many of their contemporaries.

The album opens with "Half The Way Valley", immediately establishing its tough, blues-influenced sound. "Doghouse" and "Too Much T-Bone" follow with chunky guitar work and a loose, hard-driving groove, while "Someday" brings a more melodic edge without losing the band's trademark grit.

"Back To The Grind" closes the first side with another dose of hard-edged rock, while side two features "Bunkbed Creek", "In The Mood For Love", "Miss Fortune" and "All The Time". The closing pair, "Three's A Charm" and "Under The Night Stars", round out the album with a mixture of swagger, melody and darker atmosphere.

The Sea Hags were part of the same broader late-1980s Los Angeles and San Francisco rock environment that produced bands such as Guns N' Roses, but their sound retained a distinctly punky, blues-rock and underground character. Their self-titled album would ultimately become their only studio album, adding to its cult status among collectors.

For fans of Sea Hags, Guns N' Roses, Faster Pussycat, The Georgia Satellites and late-1980s American hard rock, Sea Hags is a highly regarded cult release and an excellent example of the rawer side of the era's glam and sleaze-rock scene.
