Simon & Garfunkel, Dave Grusin – The Graduate (Original Soundtrack)

A landmark film soundtrack, The Graduate brings together the unmistakable folk-rock sound of Simon & Garfunkel with the jazz-influenced instrumental compositions of Dave Grusin. Originally released in 1968, the album captures the atmosphere of Mike Nichols’ acclaimed film, pairing memorable songs with carefully chosen musical interludes.

Simon & Garfunkel provide some of their most enduring recordings, including “The Sound Of Silence”, “Scarborough Fair / Canticle” and “April Come She Will”. The soundtrack also features two appearances of “Mrs. Robinson”, the song that became closely associated with the film and one of the duo’s best-known hits. Their music gives the album its reflective, bittersweet character, perfectly complementing the film’s themes of youth, uncertainty and changing expectations.

Dave Grusin’s original compositions add a different dimension, with playful, jazz-flavoured pieces such as “The Singleman Party Foxtrot”, “Sunporch Cha-Cha-Cha”, “On The Strip” and “Whew”. The contrast between Grusin’s instrumental score and Simon & Garfunkel’s distinctive songwriting makes this more than simply a collection of songs from a film: it is a beautifully sequenced snapshot of late-1960s popular culture.

An essential soundtrack for Simon & Garfunkel fans, film music collectors and anyone drawn to classic 1960s folk-rock and jazz-influenced scores.
