Barbra Streisand – One Voice

Barbra Streisand – One Voice

Originally released in 1987, One Voice captures Barbra Streisand in a rare full-length live concert, recorded on September 6, 1986 at her home in Malibu, California. The performance was filmed for an HBO television special and marked Streisand’s first full concert performance in around twenty years, making the album an important document of her return to the live stage.

The 13-track programme draws heavily on the songs and composers that defined Streisand’s career, moving effortlessly between Broadway standards, film songs and sophisticated adult pop. Highlights include “Somewhere” and “Something’s Coming” from West Side Story, “People” from Funny Girl, “Send In The Clowns”, “Over The Rainbow”, “The Way We Were” and “Papa, Can You Hear Me?”. The result is a showcase for Streisand’s famously controlled and expressive vocal style, backed by a polished concert orchestra under musical director Randy Kerber.

The album also features two duets with Barry Gibb: “Guilty” and “What Kind Of Fool”, bringing material from their hugely successful 1980 collaboration into the live setting. The closing sequence moves from “It’s A New World” and “Happy Days Are Here Again” to a stirring rendition of “America The Beautiful”.

For collectors of Barbra Streisand, Broadway recordings, vocal pop and classic live albums, One Voice offers a particularly distinctive snapshot of Streisand during the mid-1980s. This 13-track CD edition preserves the complete album programme, including “Send In The Clowns”, which was not included on the original LP because of its running-time limitations.
