Conan Gray – Kid Krow

Conan Gray – Kid Krow

Originally released on 20 March 2020, Kid Krow is Conan Gray's debut studio album and a defining release from the singer-songwriter's early career. Built around candid songwriting, intimate vocals and polished alternative pop production, the album captures Gray's knack for turning teenage relationships, loneliness, friendship and self-doubt into sharply observed pop songs. The 12-track album was released as Gray's first full-length studio project following his earlier Sunset Season EP.

The album opens with “Comfort Crowd”, setting the tone for a collection that moves between upbeat indie-pop hooks and more vulnerable, introspective material. “Wish You Were Sober” and “Maniac” provide some of the record's most immediate pop moments, while “(Online Love)” and “Checkmate” explore the complications of modern relationships and digital-age romance. “The Cut That Always Bleeds” takes a more emotionally exposed approach, contrasting its memorable melody with lyrics about an unhealthy relationship.

Gray's songwriting becomes particularly reflective on “Fight Or Flight”, “Affluenza” and “(Can We Be Friends?)”, before Kid Krow reaches its best-known song, “Heather”. The track became one of Gray's signature songs, with its wistful perspective and unrequited-love theme helping introduce his music to a much wider audience. The closing songs, “Little League” and “The Story”, bring the album back towards nostalgia and personal reflection, giving the record a strong sense of emotional continuity.

For collectors and fans of Conan Gray, alternative pop, indie pop and contemporary singer-songwriters, Kid Krow represents an important early statement from an artist who built a substantial following through emotionally direct songwriting and internet-era pop culture. The original 2020 album remains distinct from the expanded Kid Krow, Decomposed (5 Year Anniversary) edition issued in 2025, which adds three bonus tracks.
