Original Sin – The Collection is an 18-track compilation showcasing the formative years of Australian rock band "INXS", from their early new wave and post-punk-influenced sound through to the polished rock and dance-rock style that would define their international breakthrough. Released in 2004 by Spectrum Music, the collection brings together three tracks from each of the band's first six studio albums.
The recordings span 1980–1987, beginning with material from the band's self-titled 1980 debut, including "Just Keep Walking", "In Vain" and "Learn To Smile". The collection then moves through Underneath The Colours (1981), Shabooh Shoobah (1982), The Swing (1984), Listen Like Thieves (1985) and finally Kick (1987). This makes the album particularly useful for tracing the development of INXS from their early Australian post-punk/new wave roots towards the funkier, more dance-oriented rock that became central to their sound.
Highlights include "Don't Change", one of the band's early signature songs, "Original Sin", produced by Nile Rodgers and released as a single in late 1983, and "Listen Like Thieves", which points towards the more expansive sound of the mid-1980s. The final section features three tracks from Kick, including "Devil Inside", "Wild Life" and "Calling All Nations", capturing INXS immediately before their worldwide breakthrough with the Kick era.
