Kate Bush – The Kick Inside

Kate Bush – The Kick Inside

A remarkable debut from one of British music’s most original singer-songwriters, The Kick Inside introduced Kate Bush’s singular blend of art-pop, literary storytelling and expressive, unconventional vocals. First released in 1978, the album established her as a distinctive new voice, balancing delicate piano-led songs with dramatic arrangements, adventurous melodies and an unmistakable sense of atmosphere.

The international breakthrough “Wuthering Heights” transforms Emily Brontë’s novel into an unforgettable pop performance, while “The Man With The Child In His Eyes” reveals a more intimate and tender side of Bush’s songwriting. Elsewhere, “The Saxophone Song” brings a smoky, jazz-inflected mood, “Strange Phenomena” explores unusual patterns and connections, and “Them Heavy People” adds an energetic, rhythm-driven lift. Across the album, Bush’s imaginative lyrics and wide-ranging vocal style give each song its own character.

Produced and arranged by Andrew Powell, The Kick Inside is an essential starting point for exploring Kate Bush’s catalogue: an ambitious, melodic and deeply individual record that remains a defining release of late-1970s British art-pop.
