The Beatles – Love

Love is a unique reimagining of The Beatles' music, bringing together some of the band's most celebrated recordings in a continuous, experimental soundscape. Originally released in 2006, the album was created by legendary Beatles producer George Martin and his son Giles Martin, who worked extensively with the band's original master tapes at Abbey Road Studios.

Created as the musical companion to the Cirque du Soleil production The Beatles LOVE, the album takes material recorded throughout The Beatles' career and combines vocals, instruments, harmonies and arrangements from different recordings. Rather than being a conventional compilation, Love reconstructs the songs into new mixes and intricate mashups, offering a fresh way to hear some of the most familiar music in rock history. The original album was released on 20 November 2006.

The 26-track collection draws from recordings spanning The Beatles' classic period, with songs originally recorded and released from the 1960s, including early favourites such as I Want To Hold Your Hand and Help!, through to landmark psychedelic and experimental recordings such as Strawberry Fields Forever, I Am The Walrus, Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows and A Day In The Life. The result compresses much of The Beatles' musical evolution into one constantly changing listening experience.

The album opens with a delicate, atmospheric version of Because, before moving into a powerful Get Back / Glass Onion sequence. Elsewhere, Drive My Car / The Word / What You're Doing combines three different Beatles recordings into one energetic arrangement, while Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows creates a striking fusion of George Harrison's Indian-influenced composition with the psychedelic experimentation of Revolver. Come Together / Dear Prudence / Cry Baby Cry and Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite! / I Want You (She's So Heavy) / Helter Skelter similarly demonstrate how radically the Martin production team reshaped the original recordings.

One of the album's most notable moments is While My Guitar Gently Weeps, featuring a new orchestral arrangement written by George Martin in 2006. The recording session at Air Studios became the final string session of George Martin's career.

The collection closes with A Day In The Life, Hey Jude, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) and All You Need Is Love, providing a spectacular finale to an album that celebrates The Beatles while presenting their music in an entirely different format.

An essential addition for The Beatles collectors and fans of classic rock, psychedelic rock, British pop, experimental music and mashup production, Love offers familiar Beatles songs in a completely new context. It is particularly interesting for listeners who want to hear how the band's original multi-track recordings can be deconstructed, combined and transformed decades after they were first recorded. The album went on to win multiple Grammy Awards and became the soundtrack to the long-running The Beatles LOVE Cirque du Soleil production.
