Rather than focusing on standard jazz formats, Alegría feels composed like a suite - each track unfolding with shifting orchestration, layered instrumentation, and an emphasis on mood and colour over repetition. Shorter’s playing remains at the centre throughout: exploratory, unpredictable, and deeply expressive, whether weaving through dense ensemble passages or floating above sparse harmonic textures.
