A landmark crossover project that reimagines some of classical music’s most iconic compositions through a minimalist, ambient, and electronic lens, Pieces in a Modern Style bridges centuries of musical language with a distinctly contemporary sonic palette. William Orbit’s production strips these works back to their emotional core, reconstructing them with shimmering synth textures, spacious arrangements, and subtle rhythmic undercurrents.

Rather than attempting orchestral imitation, Orbit reframes these pieces as modern soundscapes - intimate, atmospheric, and often meditative. The result is a collection that feels both reverent and re-inventive, highlighting the enduring emotional power of the original compositions while presenting them in a radically different context.

Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings becomes a vast, slowly unfolding ambient elegy, while John Cage’s In a Landscape is rendered with delicate restraint and stillness. Erik Satie’s Gnossienne-like minimalism is echoed in Ogive No. 1, and Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte is transformed into a cinematic, suspended lament.

Elsewhere, Orbit reinterprets works by Vivaldi, Beethoven, Handel, and Górecki, blending baroque structure and romantic intensity with modern electronic production. Each piece retains its emotional identity while being refracted through a contemporary sonic filter.
